DASA innovative research call 2020 for explosives and weapons detection

Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) has unlocked £2.8m innovation funding to boost detection of explosives, weapons and illicit drugs

What's the open innovation challenge?

The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) is inviting proposals to develop and improve explosives and weapon detection capabilities.

Key focus areas address the screening of:

  • Building and areas
  • Goods

Proposals should provide tangible technical or operational benefits over current commercially available solutions. This could be:

  • Improved detection accuracy
  • Improved range of detectable threats
  • Reduced detection or screening times
  • Reduction of cognitive and/or physical burden on the operator

The current call is for phase 1 of a 2-phased competition. The total funding available to phase 1 is £1 million. Phase 1 contracts will be for up to £70,000 and up to 6 months.

Phase 2 will only be open to applicants who have successfully completed a phase 1 project. Total funding available for phase 2 is £1.8 million for projects of up to 2 years duration.
