European Space Agency - Marine Energy Challenge

The European Space Agency (ESA) is seeking innovative solutions for challenges in marine energy and space industries.

What's the open innovation challenge?

ESA Space Solutions and the Dutch Marine Energy Centre are seeking innovations with commercial potential that exploit combined opportunities for the marine energy and space industries.

ESA will provide funding to successful teams looking to investigate the technical feasibility and commercial viability of spaced based applications in support of marine energy solutions.

Key focus areas include:

  • Logistics and operation of marine energy installations
  • Increase durability and survival of marine energy installations
  • Resource assessment at different sites
  • Supporting environmental impact assessment of marine energy

Activities will be 100% funded up to €150,000 each.

Bidding teams must obtain a Letter of Authorisation from their respective National Delegation before submitting a proposal.

Webinars: 8 and 15 September 2020

Competition opens (tentative): 14 September 2020

Competition closes (tentative): 27 October 2020
