Could you develop innovative wave energy solutions?

The challenge

Wave energy has the potential to power the world several times over and will bring huge environmental, economic and social benefits. What the wave energy sector needs now is not innovation - it has plenty - but innovative support systems.

The programme will focus on the highest priority technology areas for the advancement of wave energy systems: scale prototypes, off-grid applications and mooring systems.

EuropeWave is an innovative Research and Development  programme for wave energy technology. It will combine over €22.5 million of national, regional and EU funding to drive a competitive Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP) programme for wave energy.

Have you got the solution?

Match-funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme, this is a collaboration between Wave Energy Scotland (WES), the Basque Country (EVE) and Ocean Energy Europe (OEE).

EuropeWave creates a ‘funnel’ via a multi-stage funding programme.

At the start, developers can apply for support via an open call. In subsequent stages, the most promising projects are selected to continue into the next round, concentrating the remaining funding on the best-performing technologies.

The final round will be demonstrated in Basque and Scottish open waters at the end of the programme.
