What’s the challenge?

A major UK manufacturing industry is looking for an innovative solution to remove long-chain esters (namely ethyl hexadecanoate) from bulk liquids that contain a complex mix of components.

These esters have a low solubility compared to other components in the mix. They're currently removed by chilling the liquid and filtering, but this has cost implications. We're looking for an energy-efficient alternative.

How can you help?

Potential solutions to this challenge must:

  • Specifically target the removal of long-chain esters (ethyl hexanoate)
  • Have no impact on the level of other components in the liquid
  • Leave no residues in the product
  • Be rapid and applicable in a high-throughput production environment

We're looking to develop collaborations. Ideas at any stage in development will be considered. Our industry’s research and technology organisation can work with you to evaluate, test and develop any concepts.
