Innovation Partnership opportunities

SP Energy Networks is a leader in sustainable innovation. As a distribution and transmission network operator, it keeps electricity flowing to homes and businesses throughout central and southern Scotland, North Wales, Merseyside, Cheshire and North Shropshire. It does this through a network of overhead lines and underground cables which it owns and maintains.

In 2020, SP Energy Networks will be preparing two strategic innovation projects and, as part of this, it’s extending a call for partnerships in these projects. Its project proposals will focus on two areas:

  1. The long-term decarbonisation of heat provision
  2. The management of the whole electrical network in a smart and flexible manner

SP Energy Networks are looking for partners who are ready and capable to share in the technical development and financial responsibility of these projects.

Challenge outcomes

Successful proposals could align to any of the following (this list is not exhaustive):

  • Address issues associated with the move to a low-carbon economy
  • Deliver wider environmental and/or cost benefits to customers
  • Provide access to a large volume of related equipment
  • Provide expert support on an innovative technology in the related area
  • Provide experience and/or date in the focus area, giving insight into the problem and the associated method
