£10 million to support seafood R&D. This UK Government fund, administered by Cefas on behalf of Defra, aims to secure the future of UK seafood by funding R&D projects with a long-term vision for the industry.

What's the open innovation challenge?

This is a UK Government fund, which is being administered by Cefas on behalf of Defra. Its aim is to secure the future of UK seafood by funding R&D projects that have a long-term vision for the industry.

The fund offers the opportunity to bid for up to £50,000 for feasibility studies, or up to £250,000 for full R&D projects, to develop disruptive innovations. 100% funding can be awarded.

Projects should consider the following priorities

  • Innovative technologies for sustainable seafood production
  • Increasing seafood productivity
  • Increasing seafood sustainability
  • Reducing commercial risk
  • Strengthening the evidence base for sustainable fisheries management

Projects that foster new collaborations between seafood sector experts and technology businesses are particularly encouraged.
